Clare completed a B.A (Mod) in Biochemistry and Immunology at Trinity College Dublin in 2011 and began a PhD under the supervision of Dr Aisling Dunne in the Molecular Immunology Group, TCD. Her research focused on the role of particulate matter in driving joint inflammation and tissue degradation with particular attention to the intracellular signalling pathways activated by Osteoarthritis-associated Basic Calcium Phosphate crystals and wear debris derived from orthopaedic implants. During this time, Clare was the Chairperson of the TCD Biochemistry Society, she received a Trinity Trust Travel Grant to attend the American College of Rheumatology Annual Meeting in Boston and won best oral presentation at the N4i Summer Frontiers Symposium in Njimegen and the New Horizons in Rheumatology Conference in Dublin. After completing her PhD, Clare continued her research in the Dunne Lab until 2017 when she joined the Molecular Rheumatology group as a postdoctoral research fellow. Her current research focuses on hypoxia and metabolism in both Rheumatoid and Psoriatic Arthritis.
